Honey BBQ Spare Ribs

The other week spare ribs were on sale $1.99/lb, so I picked up a few racks for a 4th of July feast. They turned out so good, I found myself back at the grocery store on the 5th, picking up another rack!

After about 30min of reviewing recipes, I settled on oven roasting for 2.5 hrs and finishing them off with a char on the grill. The rub I came up with was pretty ingenious, if I don't say so myself! I had a homemade Cajun seasoning mix that had some pretty similar notes as an almost empty rib rub I had previously bought. The only thing that was missing was the sweet. So I doubled my seasoning mix by adding brown sugar, and this finger licking good recipe was born.

Ingredients:

1 rack of pork spare ribs
1 cup rib rub (recipe follows)
1 cup honey BBQ sauce

Rib Rub:
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 Tbsp salt
1 1/2 Tbsp paprika
1 Tbsp cayenne pepper
2 tsp dried oregano
2 tsp onion powder
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp ground thyme
2 tsp white pepper
2 tsp black pepper

Recipe:

Preheat oven to 275 degrees.

Coat both sides of the pork rack with rib rub. Go ahead and massage those ribs a little. Show them some love.

Place ribs curl side up on a pan and loosely cover with aluminum foil.

You want the ribs to steam, but not boil in the condensation.

Bake for 2.5 hours at 275 degrees.

Slather the ribs in your favorite sweet BBQ sauce and toss them on the grill for a good char. This will take about 10-15min per side.

Slice those bad boys up, or just pull them apart, and enjoy!

I served mine with a side of sweet potato hash, I will post that recipe soon!
